So this may become a thing

I had forgotten how much I really like drawing in ballpoint pen. I used to be really heavy handed with pencils, drawing in ballpoint lets you shade, but taught me to make marks that mattered since the marks can't be erased. Maybe I'll sit down with my sketch book and do this for a little bit. Nice way to pass the time since I'm off work because of Ms. Sandy. Power has been out for 3 days now.

Dress Rehearsal

So, I thought I would do another post with some things I've done in the past.

Not to wax poetic or anything, but earlier this evening I went to see The Perks of Being a Wallflower, with my little sister and got to thinking about high school, and life and all the things you think of when you watch that kind of movie.
When I was in high school I was really into what my dad called "scary clowns" that I would insist were harlequins because I had looked it up on wikipedia and thought that was fancier than clown. There were 4 that I designed and sketched very often, and carried with me into college when I painted the colored image above. I've always had a thing for masks and circuses. Won't go into the psychological implications of such information, but that's just me. I love masks, peter pan and his pirates, and super heroes.

Reminds me that sometimes you need to sit back and remember the things that matter and the things that don't, and what a family friend once said about that painting. She told me that the fact that they seemed to be making all this fanfare and the spotlights were on but no one was in the stands made her think of how most of our lives we act as though everyone is concerned with everything we do. Like sometimes we're making a big show of everything we do, and we get embarrassed or proud like people are watching, when sometimes, no one cares even the tiniest bit what we're doing. Like a dress rehearsal. A place where it's ok to mess up because no one is really watching. I hadn't thought of it that way, but I had to laugh because sometimes I tell my sister that. She gets self conscious about dancing in public. We all have our things and not that I don't sometimes too, but I realize, sometimes when you are in a crowded room dancing, who cares what anyone else thinks, because a lot of time they are so concerned with themselves there is no chance they are looking at you. This is especially true if you will never see them again, so enjoy yourself. Haha, well that's my 2 cents.

more later.

NYCC is over...

So my first Comic Con is over. I had imagined a lot of waiting in line and things, so doodles. While I did some doodles, I also saw a lot of interesting things, and met a lot of interesting people.

Got to hear Guillermo del Toro speak and be hilarious, he signed a poster for me. Also made it a habit to talk to a few strangers when I was alone. I did make a few doodles, sketching people at panels.

I got to speak to Ananth and Yuko of Johnny Wander. I've been reading Ananth's work since he worked on Apple Geeks (google it) and really admire Yuko's art. And no lie the first day I stumbled upon their table, (well I knew it was going to be there, but was so lost in the GIANT show room that I was a bit taken aback when I saw it) I think I may have made a teeny fool of myself... They are great though. My personal webcomic heroes. Yuko thinks my name is cool eeeeeeeee!!

Also got a book signed by Evan Dahm ( Rice Boy, Order of Tales, Vattu ). Been reading his comics for years. Even got a teacher at school to use the comic for his graphic narratives and website design classes. Wonder if he's still using it. Haha Wasn't sure if Mr. Dahm was pleased or embarrassed, but I was pleased and little star struck meeting all these people.
Here are some doodles. The girl I actually gave away to a woman sitting next to me in line. The boy I drew on the train. My friend had read me a tidbit about how when trees get too cold they sometimes explode because of the dryness contracting the bark and the sap expanding. Wanna do a picture of jack frost now. I don't think I will make him quite that young, but it would be cool... more later.

urge to paint

So Today I got the urge to start painting on something old. Something that I started a while ago, but just couldn't get the momentum to keep going on, or rather it just wasn't the right color scheme. So here is a little more work on it and I broke apart some of the layers to show the steps.
What can I say. I have a thing for jelly fish...

In the meantime

So while I'm working on something other things, I thought maybe I would post my progress on a few projects or some other things from the past. So far I haven't put anything on this site that reflects any of my paintings or other drawings. So here is a little bit of that work.
Here's just a smattering of things I've done. Maybe I'll do more later

EXCITED ABOUT LIFE

SO I'm going to Comic Con for the first time. I'm SUPER excited AND to top it all off, they accidentally sent me a pro badge. For the noobs (*coughlikemecough*), the pro on the badge stands for professional, meaning you are an artist of some sort. Well... turns out I am... so I totally could have applied, but since I didn't this is an awesome and wonderful surprise. I have a few other things I'm working on. Freelancing is going good, client really likes the sketches, moving on to modeling soon. Got something else lined up that I'm trying really hard not to jinx... Fingers crossed, hope to finish this picture today and do more leading up to comic con. Going to a wedding today, so will add on when I get a chance to repost later tonight.

What's up.

So recently I have been drawing, but I'm working on a little freelance for someone I know. He's planning on making a pitch to a toy company and needs some 3D mockups for a better idea of what he wants the toys to look like I haven't gotten permission to post that work just yet. I'll see after he takes a look at the next round of sketches. more to come
