Not quite a drawing today

So today, instead of working on art, I spent the day glaring at comicpress.

ComicPress is a WordPress theme that is intended to created an easy way for web comic artists to post their work.

Easily... yes... that was the intention. Now don't get me wrong. I can write the basic code for a website. I can tell it make a box. Put a header and footer, and a large box with three columns underneath. Make the center column wide for my posts. I can make a table, and I can tell it, make this image a link, make my text red, and this text larger than that text.  The part I hadn't quite gotten down was a nice system to help me post pages without having to write a new page for each post.  So ComicPress was intended to help me concentrate on the art part and leave the site building to some faceless developer someplace.

THAT has been interesting, learning to work in the confines of Comic and WordPress.

I'm still going to be building some of this site myself, with the intention of eventually creating the site on my own. Right now I'm going to be working on building a CSS style for the page and the front page that links the current 2 halves of the site together.

Let's see how this goes...

"I'm dramatic like the night sky"

I don't normally post pictures of people, but went to a get together with some family friends and happened to paint a few faces. There were more than that, but not gonna post pictures of people other than my family without their permission. Haha though I know that my mother never wants to have any pictures of her posted online, at least her identity is semi-secret behind her mask. And then there's my baby sister, who gave me my title.

the ones that get away

Heard a snippet of the song Run by the Snow Patrol. Also I'm trying something with a friend. We make 2 lists of 20. We don't tell each other what's on either one. One rolls a 20 sided die twice (or in my case, uses a random number generator app) and tells the other what they rolled. From the lists the second person chooses whatever combinations of words the person rolled, with the first person having the option to choose the reverse (12, 8 as opposed to 8, 12).

So my words were animal, specifically mammal and fish.

Now mermaid may not be the most original interpretation of that, BUT once i had the face, and listening to that song, there seemed to be no going back and before i knew it I had been sketching for around an hour. I want to rework this one. I know what I was going for with the body, just couldn't quite get it and now she's a little wonky all over....

blue dragons

So someone in the wonderful world of the book of face posted a picture of a blue dragon sea slug. Naturally I was drawn to the weird little thing as I'm a little bit in love with anything parading under the name sea slug or nudibranch. They don't sound too attractive, but a lot of them have some fantastic motions and color combinations. Pop it in google and take a look sometime.

That said, I was pretty attracted to the little blue thing, it looked almost like it had wings. I figured I would sketch it if I could find more pictures of it, but somehow sketches of the sea slug became sketches of what was closer to an actual dragon, inspired by the shape of its aquatic counter part. I think I might like to model him...

If only cleaning were actually this fun

I know it seems like I'm doing a great many sketches with stick figures. As much as I adore a good stick figure (and I do so love a good stick figure), actually I had a bunch of ideas at once and wanted to sketch them out as soon as I could. This will probably be the last of the cleaning ones, but I was telling someone that I greatly respect anyone in the cleaning profession. I hardly want to clean up my own messes most of the time, let alone someone else's mess....

They are super heroes in their own way. Hopefully I will flesh these sketches out soon.

dust bunnies...

So after my last doodle I took a few days off to help out my grandparents with some cleaning. I spent around 4 days with them. I find when you do even an ok job cleaning it takes a pretty considerable amount of time... And it's almost crazy to think of all the dust that drifts all over the house... so in the spirit of dusting, here's the late night beginning to a sketch that's been rolling around in my head. There will be more bunnies.....

Oh how many bunnies there will be...
